I was really saddened to awake to the news there had been a fire at Meldrum Primary School early this morning.

Firstly, can I thank the 8 crews from across Aberdeenshire who battled through the night to save the building and contained the fire in a small area of the school saving it from any serious structural damage.

Our fire service do a great job and we must all be thankful for them.

There is no indication of this being a suspicious fire, but a standard fire investigation will take place later today.

The school will be closed for today – and the Council officers will be working closely with the PPP partner Morrisons identifying a way forward.
